Display name — if you choose to post a comment in the weekly discussion, you provide a display name. This is the only account information we ask for.
Support enquiries — if you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence to help resolve your query.

Information collected automatically

Basic usage data — we may collect anonymous data about how the app is used, such as which sections are visited, to help us improve the experience. This data is not linked to you personally.
Device information — we may collect basic device and operating system information for debugging and performance purposes.
Timezone — we collect your device timezone to ensure chapter notifications are delivered at the right local time. This information is not linked to your identity and is not shared with third parties.

Information collected by Apple and Google

Subscription and payment information is handled entirely by Apple (iOS) and Google (Android). We do not see or store your payment details. Apple's and Google's privacy policies govern how they handle this data.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

Your name, email address, or any identifying information unless you contact us directly
Your precise location — we collect timezone information only, not your physical location or GPS data.
Any biometric data
Any data for advertising or tracking purposes

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

Deliver and improve the app experience
Display your chosen display name alongside comments you post
Respond to support enquiries
Understand general usage patterns to improve the app

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Comments

If you post a comment in the app, your chosen display name and comment text are stored on our servers and visible to other readers of the same chapter. Please do not include personal information in your comments.

Comments can be removed by us at any time in line with our Terms of Use. If you would like a comment removed, please contact us at support@weeklyserial.com

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on servers provided by Replit. We take reasonable steps to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Weekly Serial is operated from Australia. If you are accessing the app from outside Australia, please be aware your data may be transferred to and stored in Australia.

7. Data Retention

We retain comment data for as long as the app is in operation. If you would like your comments removed, please contact us and we will action this promptly.

Support correspondence is retained for up to 12 months.

Anonymous usage data may be retained indefinitely in aggregated form.

8. Children's Privacy

The Weekly Serial is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Third Party Services

The Weekly Serial uses the following third party services which have their own privacy policies:

Apple App Store and In-App Purchases — for subscription billing on iOS
Google Play and In-App Purchases — for subscription billing on Android
RevenueCat — for subscription management across platforms
